The Branches · Kitchener-Waterloo

Yoga and strength, rooted in community.

A studio in downtown Kitchener for people who want a yoga practice that actually fits their body and their life. Drop-in classes, teacher training, and on-demand streaming. Sliding-scale pricing, no hot-yoga energy.

A small group practising yoga in a warmly lit studio with wood floors.

What we are

A community studio that takes both yoga and you seriously.

We've been teaching yoga in Kitchener-Waterloo since 2005 — first as Queen Street Yoga, then, since 2021, as The Branches. Our classes blend rigorous movement education, traditional asana, and an honest reckoning with what yoga is and isn't.

We're not a hot studio. We're not a fitness chain. We're a small staff of working teachers who'll learn your name, modify the practice for the body you actually have, and trust you to choose the rate that fits your finances right now.

The Branches difference

Three pillars we won't compromise on.

Pillar one

Movement education & innovation

Bodies are worthy of attention and care. Our classes blend rigorous research, traditional asana, and functional movement so you find joy in moving — and feel the difference in how you live.

Pillar two

Resilience-building & self-care

Take refuge in rest and pleasure, then build the capacity to face what's hard. Yoga and strength are sustenance for the long road, not aesthetic optimisation.

Pillar three

Community care & social action

We practice yoga as a catalyst for social and environmental justice. Collective care, lifelong learning, and meaningful engagement — locally in Kitchener-Waterloo and beyond.

Three rates, you choose

Sliding-scale pricing that doesn't require a confession.

We publish three prices for the same class. The subsidized rate is funded by community supporters and our regular operating revenue. There's no proof, no questionnaire, and no awkward conversation — choose what fits your finances right now.

Subsidized

$14

For students whose finances are tight. No proof, no questions — choose this rate at your own discretion.

Standard

$24

The break-even rate. Pays our teachers, our rent, and keeps the lights on.

Community Supporter

$30

If your finances are steady, this rate funds the subsidized tier and supports community programs.

Teacher training

A 250-hour training built like an apprenticeship — not a four-week sprint.

Ten months. Two Thursday evenings and one weekend per month. Anatomy, philosophy, accessible teaching, trauma-aware sequencing, and a small cohort of peers you'll keep teaching with for years.

  • 250 contact hours, Yoga Alliance-aligned.
  • Specialist trainings in Restorative and Trauma-Informed Yoga Nidra.
  • Continuing-ed modules for working teachers.
  • Scholarships and an 8-week YTT prep on-ramp.

Resilience-building & self-care

Community care & social action

“Sustenance for the journey of creating a better world.”

Students say

The studio works because the people in it work at it.

This is an amazing place for people who don't usually feel super comfortable or welcome in fitness spaces. They go out of their way to make yoga as welcoming, accessible, non-competitive, and inclusive to all body types as possible — and they're very thoughtful about their role in the community.
Laura W. · Drop-in student
Dedicated and knowledgeable staff. The teachers go out of their way to make the practice specific to you. The classes are approachable and informative. Beautiful space as well. Highly recommended.
Jason E. · Drop-in student
An absolute gem. The instructors are supportive and encouraging — Emma always makes you laugh — and the studio is welcoming and inclusive. The drop-in classes can really be made as intense or as restorative as you need that day. I LOVE being part of this community.
